When a firm is employee-owned, every person advising you has a genuine stake in getting it right, not just a job to get through. That is the simplest way to explain what changed at Batcheller Monkhouse in October 2025, when we became owned by an Employee Ownership Trust on behalf of everyone who works here.

It is not a rebrand. It is a change in who is accountable to you, and it is one we are genuinely proud of.

An Employee Ownership Trust, or EOT, holds a controlling stake in a company on behalf of its employees. Instead of shareholders or a single owner-founder, the business is run for the long-term benefit of the people working in it, and by extension, the clients they serve.

It is the same model used by John Lewis and Richer Sounds, and it is becoming increasingly common across professional services in the UK, for a straightforward reason: it aligns the interests of the people doing the work with the people the work is for.

Nothing about who you work with has changed. Our name, our leadership, and our team are the same. What has changed is the structure underneath it, one built to safeguard our independence, retain the people who know this region best, and keep the firm answerable to its team and clients rather than outside shareholders.

“This is a defining moment for our firm. Becoming employee-owned is not just a structural change, it is a cultural commitment to the people who make our business what it is.”

Leo Hickish, Chairman and Director

You are already working with people who know Kent, Sussex, and Surrey properly, often because they have lived and worked here for years. Employee ownership does not change that expertise. What it changes is the incentive behind it.

Every member of staff, from valuers to planners to support teams, has a direct interest in the quality of advice you receive and the outcome you get. Decisions get made with the client relationship in mind, not a shareholder’s quarterly target. That is not a marketing line, it is how the structure is built.

If you are weighing up who to trust with a sale, letting, or valuation, find your nearest office and speak to the team directly.

If you join Batcheller Monkhouse, you are a beneficial owner of the business, not just an employee. That shows up in how decisions get made and how success is shared.
