The town itself originated as a memorial for the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and provides a comprehensive range of shops and a station on the Hastings to London Bridge/Charing Cross main line. The nearby A21 links with the M25 and the coastal towns of Rye, Hastings and Eastbourne are all within easy reach.

There is an excellent selection of state and private schools in the area including well-respected Primary Schools and Community Colleges, Claremont at Bodiam and St Leonards-on-Sea, St Ronan’s and Marlborough House at Hawkhurst, Battle Abbey at Battle, Vinehall at Robertsbridge, Bede’s at Upper Dicker, St Andrew’s and Eastbourne College at Eastbourne.

The area covered by the Battle office extends to Rye in the east, Hawkhurst, Stonegate and Heathfield to the north and Golden Cross and Chiddingly to the west, including Downland villages such as Alfriston, Litlington and Jevington.
