Following the introduction of regulations to allow Councils to establish garden town development corporations last month, the long awaited Garden Town Prospectus was published on 16 August 2018. The prospectus setting out criteria and advice has been published as part of the government’s bid to deliver 200,000 new homes by 2050 through garden communities, ranging from ‘discrete new settlements’ to ‘transformational development of an existing settlement’. Whilst proposals of 1,500 units or more will be considered, priority will be given to garden towns of 10,000 plus homes. We expect to hear about successful proposals in the new year and a package of support including ‘loans and investment, advice and development corporation status’ will then be provided according to the Planning Resource.
