Batcheller Monkhouse were delighted to once again attend Heathfield Agricultural Show on Saturday 25th May 2024.

Held at Tottingworth Farm in Broad Oak, our Agency and Rural Professionals spent the day assisting farmers and landowners with any questions they had. After the recent rain, the sun finally came out which attracted thousands of visitors making it a brilliant day for everyone involved.

With a focus on farmers of the future we hosted our popular Sussex Breakfast, to over 70 people, to start the day. This year’s key note speakers featured Tom Gribble and Hew Merriman.

Tom Gribble, who with his father farms some 1500 acres at Firle, opened the discussion confirming their commitment to food production. He highlighted the importance of making the best of the environmental grants available whilst keeping food production at the centre of the business strategy. A lively question and answer session followed on with Huw Merriman bringing the discussion to a close, Despite his recent announcement not to stand for re-election in July 2024 he still had a great interest with key local issues, in particular the chronic shortage of housing across the South East. Whilst it is understandable that people are worried about the impact on their own locality, he urged everyone to think more holistically. More housing is needed urgently.

Leo Hickish, Chairman and Partner at Batcheller Monkhouse said “to hear the next generation of farmers presenting their ideas for the future and embracement of technology and advancement perhaps not available to their forbears was of great interest. Our Country’s future food production lies very much in their hands. Whatever your political bias and whichever party has the key to Number 10 in July, farmers will keep farming sustainably, bringing safe food produced to the highest welfare standards to our shopping baskets.”

Located opposite Ring 2, the Batcheller Monkhouse stand had a representative from each of the firms’ Professional Departments. These include Planning ConsultancyDevelopment ConsultancyTelecommunicationsEstate Management and Agriculture. Our industry leading Sales and Lettings teams also enjoyed networking and meeting potential clients. Our stand was well attended by farmers, contractors, property hunters and landowners from across the South East. Many of whom were looking to find out more about Natural Capital, rural opportunities, rental legislation and the property market. It was a terrific opportunity for everyone, whether working in agriculture or not, to get together and network.
