33 people lost their lives on British farms between April 2025 and March 2026. Farming employs just 1% of the UK workforce, yet it accounts for around one in five workplace deaths. Behind each of those numbers is a family, a farm and a community changed forever. That is why we are backing FarmersAid from RABI, a free app built for the moments that matter most
What the RABI FarmersAid app does
The finances of getting started have changed as well. The Basic Payment Scheme, which underpinned farm incomes for decades, has gone. Inheritance tax changes have pushed succession up the agenda on family farms, and in some cases frozen it, because the decisions made in the next few years will shape who farms that land for the next forty. Meanwhile input costs, borrowing costs and consumer expectations all point the same way: tighter margins, higher standards, more scrutiny.
Yet talk to the young people actually doing it, at Young Farmers Club meetings across both counties, at Hadlow or Plumpton, or at the county shows, and the mood is not defeat. It is adaptation.
Environmental income: a new enterprise on the farm
Serious farm accidents often happen in remote places, and frequently to people working alone. Emergency services can take longer to reach the scene, which makes the first ten minutes critical. Clinicians call this the “Platinum 10”.
FarmersAid was built for exactly that window. Developed with leading experts in rural emergency medicine, the free app provides clear, step-by-step guidance for ten of the most common serious on-farm accidents, from machinery entrapment and crush injuries to falls from height and livestock incidents.
The app works completely offline. It uses large buttons and simple yes or no steps, designed for hands that are shaking and minds under pressure. It can also share your exact location with emergency services using what3words. Importantly, it is not a replacement for calling 999. It is there to help you act while help is on the way.

Why we support RABI
Alex Wilks, Company Director at Batcheller Monkhouse, said: “We are delighted to promote the RABI FarmersAid App, a new mobile app designed to help farming people respond quickly and confidently to serious on-farm incidents, providing access to vital guidance, emergency support and medical assistance when it is needed most.
“We have been long time supporters of RABI, the farmers’ charity who provide practical, financial and emotional support to farming people across England and Wales. Their services are designed to respond to individual circumstances, offering structured, professional support when it is needed. This includes advice on benefit entitlements, access to financial support, and referrals to appropriate services, including mental health support.
“There is a freephone helpline available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on 0800 188 4444, providing a confidential route to access support.”
